Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together is a national organization that works to helps low-income homeowners preserve and revitalize their homes and neighborhoods. A typical rebuilding event will involve either painting a house or beautifying a garden. This spring semester we will specifically be working with Rebuilding Oakland/East Bay, so if you’re interested in seeing the tangible effects of your service on the local community, it would be a great event to participate in! Yeah!

Yeah! is a program located here in Berkeley that provides assistance to homeless young adults between the ages of 18 to 25. The organization provides a safe environment for youth and removes the stress of being homeless. At Yeah!, young adults can get receive basic necessities, greater resources to education/employment, and even housing. To address this issue, we will be devoting a semester to collecting donations of clothes/toiletries to help provide basic necessities for these young adults. Berkeley Food and Housing Project

The Berkeley Food and Housing Project is a local organization that provides homeless and struggling members of the community tools that will help them cope with their present situations without any judgment or restrictions. They have a shelter that provides transitional housing, emergency food and supplies, and resources to promote individual self-sufficiency. We will be providing our service by assisting them in painting their walls and the outside of the Men’s Housing Program building. Learn more…

Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS)

BOSS is an organization that is committed to their mission of fighting against the root causes of poverty and homelessness, specifically the homeless, poor, and disabled people in the Bay Area. To help with their cause, we will spend an afternoon dedicated to cleaning up their children’s play structure that Rotaract installed a couple years back. Berkeley Project

Berkeley Project aims at building a legacy of service and a strong, sustainable partnership between Cal students and the Berkeley community. Each spring, hundreds of Berkeley students from campus unite on one day and work positively impacting the community through a network of service projects. We will participate at the work site that is assigned to us, and one of our members will help lead the project alongside one of us. Stop Hunger Now

“Stop Hunger Now is driven by a world without hunger”. The reality is that each day, millions of children die of malnutrition. Many others remain impoverished due a lack of access to education. Stop Hunger Now strives to end malnutrition and incentivise families to send their children to school by supplying them with food kits. This semester, we will pack food kits which will then be shipped overseas to help those in need. We look forward in engaging this issue together. Learn more…

Foundation for Sustainable Development

The Foundation for Sustainable Development is a leader in promoting economic, social, and environmental development worldwide. The foundation is currently working in Latin America, Africa, and Asia on projects to empower individuals towards the sustainable development of their lands. We plan to partner with the foundation to participate in hands-on activities that teach Cal Rotaract members how to take an active role in furthering sustainable development projects in the world. ShelterBox

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and supplies to aid communities damaged by natural disasters or experiencing humanitarian crises. Since its inception in 2000, the organization has responded to disasters like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the current Syrian Refugee Crisis by working on the ground to deliver food, water, shelter, and medical care immediately after each disaster. International Rescue Committee

IRC responds to the world’s largest humanitarian crises – namely, the Syrian Refugee Crisis. IRC works both internationally and locally with refugees. We hope to work with IRC to assist refugees in the Bay Area, learn about their stories, and to incorporate their work into our larger semester project! Learn more…
